Graduate and Professional Admissions
Quick Facts
March 2007
Admission tips:
- Send GPA your admits as you make them!
- We encourage departments to send us admits to process as they're being made. Please do not wait until the April 15th deadline to process the official decision! (Please refer to the CGS Resolution bullet below, for more information on the April 15th deadline for response to financial aid offers).
- Reasons to send admits now:
- All admitted students receive the official notification earlier in the process, and we have a better chance of competing with other institutions' early offers of admission.
- International students receive the I-20/DS-2019 earlier in the process.
- International students can schedule mandatory consulate appointments (SEVIS) earlier in the process.
- International students have a better chance of completing the review process in time to arrive on campus before classes begin.
- Less confusion for the admitted applicant (less phone calls/emails to the department and to GPASU).
- All students have better housing options.
- All students have more time to complete McKinley health forms to comply with state requirements.
- Processing changes to remember:
- We've separated the academic admissions and SEVIS processes! If you do not have adequate financial documentation at the time of admission, send the academic admit documents (transcripts, referral, International Student Verification Form (ISVF), and if limited status - letter of justification) to complete the official academic admission. When we receive the financial documents, we''l complete the SEVIS process, and issue the I-20/DS-2019.
- We no longer need community college transcripts for full status domestic admits (still send all transcripts if limited status admission).
- If you're in a bind, and the only option is to admit on a copy of an academic credential, send all documents to us and we'll admit, if possible, and require official/attested credentials during the first month of arrival on campus.
- Term recodes should only be for automatic admission (not for admission consideration).
- Program recodes for the same term can be done for automatic admission or admission consideration.
- Remember, you cannot recode once a denial has been made.
Apply Yourself Tips:
- When saving the AY Referral, a pop-up will ask you if you'd like to trigger business rules. Hit OK, and the form will save, and populate information on other forms.
- No need to send us referrals for deny, withdrew before decision, or applicant rejects offer decisions. This information just needs to be saved on the AY Referral.
- After completing the AY referral, you have two options for sending admission materials to GPASU:
- 1. Print the entire referral
- OR
- 2. Print the Quick View page
CGS (Council of Graduate Schools) Resolution Regarding the April 15th Deadline for Responses to Financial Aid Offers:
- A link to a pdf of the resolution and list of supporting institutions is available on the CGS website at: http://www.cgsnet.org/?tabid=201 (PDF)
- What it is: The CGS Resolution is a voluntary agreement between institutions that have indicated support of the Resolution (a list of institutions is included in the pdf). Our institution supports the Resolution.
- What it does: According to the agreement, students should have until April 15th to consider all offers of financial aid from admitting institutions.
- Students may be encouraged to respond before April 15th, but according to the agreement, they should not be required to respond before April 15th.
- If a student accepts an offer by April 15th, they are obligated to the institution, and the institution is obligated to the student.
- If a student first accepts the offer, then declines the offer, another institution is not supposed to make an offer until we release the student (in writing).
- If the student declines an offer of admission with financial aid before April 15th, the institution may offer the aid to another student.
