America Reads/America Counts Graduate Coordinator

Description:

 The America Reads/America Counts Program places undergraduate students in early, elementary and middle schools, and an Adult Learning Center to help students develop and improve their reading and mathematic skills.  The America Reads/America Counts Graduate Coordinators are responsible for overseeing the activities in the school settings and supervising the undergraduate tutors.  In addition to the public schools, tutoring sites include several after-school programs at community sites throughout Champaign and Urbana.  The Graduate Coordinators serve as liaisons between the tutors, staff at the tutoring sites, and the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) to ensure compliance to rules and smooth operation of the program.

Responsibilities: 

* Serve as the liaison between the undergraduate tutors, the tutoring site personnel, and the Office of Student Financial Aid * Create/revise tutoring schedules * Program data entry * Communicate with tutors, teachers, and program administration in a timely and professional manner

Qualifications: 

Graduate Coordinators are hired with the following expectations: He/She is a graduate student in any field of study at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; has 10-18 hours per week to commit to the position; demonstrates financial need, which requires completion of a 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form located at www.fafsa.ed.gov ; and is able to commit through the end of the spring 2010 semester, and ideally is available to work through the spring 2011 semester (there are no job responsibilities over the summer). Potential applicants must have ability to exercise independent judgment and deal tactfully with others. Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Attention to detail is critical. Must demonstrate discretion and self-initiative, and be honest and dependable and have the ability to work effectively with Urbana campus undergraduate tutors, children of pre-school, elementary and/or middle school age, and site administrators.

Compensation: 

Applicants will earn $13.50 an hour, up to $3250 each semester.
