About Us
The mission of the Graduate College Educational Equity Programs Office is to address questions of access to and participation in graduate education by individuals from groups that are currently underrepresented at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As our country becomes a more diverse society in terms of ethnic and racial identity, it is of paramount importance to our national well being that all groups participate in all aspects of the national enterprise. Graduate education is a key to the attainment of leadership positions and contributions to the development of new ideas. Unfortunately, not all sectors of our society participate in graduate education at a level which is representative of the general population. We therefore must strive to increase participation in graduate education by underrepresented groups. The Educational Equity Programs Office directs and coordinates a number of activities toward this end.
The office serves as a central point of contact for information regarding the participation of underrepresented groups in graduate programs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In addition, the office provides advice to graduate students about our graduate programs and policies and also participates in outreach activities. The Director of the Educational Equity Programs Office works with the assistant and associate deans of the Graduate College as well as with representatives from academic units in providing these services.
