Thesis Review and Doctoral Committees

Welcome to the resource page for departmental thesis reviewers! Here you will find resources and answers to help you prepare your students for a smooth deposit process with the Graduate College Thesis Office.

Departmental Format Approval

In an effort to eliminate some of the paper associated with thesis deposit, we have retired the PDF version of the departmental format approval form. Notification of departmental format approval is now sent to the Graduate College Thesis Office online.

To indicate your approval of thesis format:

  1. Follow the link to the new Web-based departmental format approval form. You will be asked to sign in using your NetID.
  2. Complete the brief form and click the "Submit Form" button. An email notification will be sent to the Thesis Office, and you will be sent a copy of that email.
  3. Forward the email you receive to the student so that he or she knows the Thesis Office has been notified of departmental format approval.

Note: Only individuals listed as a departmental thesis reviewer on the each department's Authorized Signatures form for the current academic year will be able to sign in and use this form. If you need access to this form, please ask your department to add you to their Authorized Signatures form and submit the updated form to the Graduate College.

Thesis Requirements

The list of Graduate College thesis requirements for 2009-10 is now online and effective as of Oct. 5, 2009. Some of the revisions and additions include:

  • Previous degrees are no longer included on the title page. Students who want to include this information in the thesis may do so in the author’s biography or curriculum vitae section.

  • An abstract is required for all master’s theses and doctoral dissertations. The abstract should begin on page Roman numeral two (ii), and the abstract must be written in English. There is no word limit for the abstract.

  • The author’s biography or curriculum vitae section is optional for all theses and dissertations. If included, this section should be the final section of the thesis and should be listed in the Table of Contents.
