Monday, October 12, 2:00 - 3:00 PM, Main Library, Room 314
Tuesday, October 13, 2:00 - 3:00 PM, Main Library, Room 314
Most frequently used in the sciences, and to some extent in the
social sciences, impact factor is a measure of the frequency with
which the "average article" published in a given scholarly journal
has been cited. Impact factor (IF) is often used as a measure of the
importance of a particular journal to its field. The IF of a journal may
be used as an objective measure of the "worth" of your publications
when you go up for promotion or tenure. Use this to your advantage
when you decide where to publish your research.

add feeds during this hands-on session.

15. Mindfulness Group for Older Students
Thursdays starting October 15, 1:00 - 2:30 PM, Counseling Center,
610 East John Street (7-week series)
This is a semester-long, coed group for older students (graduate
students and mature undergraduates) focused on increasing awareness
of everyday bodily sensations, behaviors, and experiences for the
purposes of appreciating the present moment more fully. Mindfulness
practice offers opportunities to rest the mind; cultivate patience and
curiosity; and develop a nonjudgmental and gentle “be here now”
attitude toward all the experiences of daily life. Throughout the course
of the group, members will be introduced to a variety of mindfulness
practices such as seated meditation, breathing exercises, guided “body
scan” visualizations, and mindful eating. We will also discuss ways of
developing a personal mindfulness practice outside the context of group
meetings.
For more information contact Lisa Kinderman, lisakind@illinois.edu.
