The Graduate College has oversight responsibilities for about 9,000 students pursuing degrees in over 300 Master’s and doctoral programs in more than a dozen academic colleges, schools, and institutes. The College works closely with individual graduate students, graduate faculty, graduate program administrative staff, academic colleges, campus administration, Office of the Registrar, Student Affairs units, and various college and campus committees to address a wide range of issues basic to graduate education at Illinois. The Graduate College is also committed to creating new knowledge through research on graduate education, synthesizing national best practices, and participating in national and international dialog on innovations in graduate education.

The Graduate College has openings for several Associate Deans. Typically, they are half-time, twelve-month academic professional appointments that report directly to the Dean of the Graduate College. Up to five positions will be filled through this search.

Position Function

The Associate Deans will be responsible for activities relating to graduate program curricular and policy oversight, development of new activities to enhance interdisciplinarity on campus, engaging faculty and students in the recruitment and retention of underrepresented minorities, enhancing graduate student mentoring on campus, conducting research on graduate education to inform policy development and engaging faculty and campus units to develop sustainable infrastructures for providing international experiences for graduate students. All responsibilities will be carried out in coordination with other senior administrative staff.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to Graduate College programs and projects (described above) that support the mission of the College and the University by working closely with faculty across the campus and will all personnel within the Graduate College.
  • Promote and sustain the campus and national conversation about important issues in graduate education.
  • Interpret University policies and procedures and develop, maintain and interpret College policies and procedures.
  • Provide vision and leadership for the College’s strategic plan.
  • Participate in day-to-day management of the Graduate College, including personnel, facilities, work processes, budget and strategic planning.
  • Represent the Graduate College on campus committees and interact as appropriate with all levels of university administration. Serve on committees at the regional and national level as requested.

Qualifications

Current University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Full or Associate Professor with Tenure. Candidates must have a strong record of administrative experience, excellent oral and written skills, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people. Candidates must have experience working with graduate programs, graduate students, diversity initiatives and interdisciplinary research and education. The ability to take initiative, develop and lead collaborative projects impacting graduate education on campus is necessary.

Salary

Salary will be at the current faculty salary (annualized over 12-month service basis), plus an administrative increment.

Appointment Status

Regular academic professional appointment at 50% FTE (negotiable). These positions will be offered to current UIUC faculty members for up to a three year period (negotiable). The positions will be reviewed annually.
